Down jackets had better not be dry-cleaned.

TOP 1

The principle of clothing dry cleaning is to use organic chemical solvents to treat clothes and remove stains on them. However, the main component of down is protein, and tetrachloroethylene, the most commonly used dry cleaning agent at present, will damage the protein component of down. The strong degreasing effect on down will also cause the down felt to merge and harden, which will make down stiff, lose its bulkiness and damage its warmth retention. In addition, most of the outer materials of down jackets have waterproof and windproof coatings. In this case, dry cleaning agents may cause this coating to fall off, lose windproof and waterproof characteristics, and accelerate the aging of fabrics, which will damage the life of down jackets.
