When do bleeding gums start in pregnancy?

TOP 0

Pregnancy does not cause gum bleeding, so there is no situation where a few months of pregnancy can cause gum bleeding. Gingival bleeding is one of the clinical manifestations of gingivitis. If a woman has gingivitis before pregnancy, it can worsen due to the influence of progesterone in the body after pregnancy, leading to symptoms of gingivitis. This is not directly caused by pregnancy.

In clinical practice, women who become pregnant often experience obvious symptoms of gingival bleeding, accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling, and hypertrophy of the gums. This is clinically known as gestational gingivitis, which occurs 2-4 months after pregnancy. About 2 months after delivery, gestational gingivitis can recover to pre pregnancy levels on its own.

Therefore, it is recommended that women undergo oral examination before pregnancy. If there is gum inflammation, it should be treated in a timely manner to avoid worsening of gum inflammation caused by pregnancy and causing symptoms of gum bleeding. If gestational gingivitis occurs after pregnancy, local irritants such as plaque, tartar, and poor restorations need to be removed, and oral hygiene care should be taken to avoid the development of plaque, which can lead to more pronounced gingivitis. If there is pus discharge from the gum pocket, it can be rinsed and rinsed with physiological saline. For larger gestational gingival tumors, surgical treatment is necessary, usually within 4-6 months of pregnancy, to avoid adverse effects on the fetus.
